Introduction to JavaScript Testing

JavaScript7 min read

Learn the fundamentals of testing JavaScript code with practical examples.

Testing ensures your code works correctly and continues to work as you make changes. While you can't run full testing frameworks in CompileZ's browser environment, understanding testing concepts is essential.

Unit tests verify individual functions in isolation. Write a function, then write tests that call it with various inputs and check the outputs. Use assert statements or testing library assertions.

Test-driven development (TDD) writes tests first, then implements code to pass them. This ensures complete test coverage and forces you to think about the API before implementation.

Simple assertion functions work in CompileZ: function assertEqual(actual, expected, message) { if (actual !== expected) throw new Error(message || "Assertion failed"); }. Write tests for your functions and run them.

Practice writing test functions in CompileZ's JavaScript editor. Create utility functions and write assertions to verify they work correctly.
